About Photoshop Software
The market leader in commercial bitmap image manipulation,
Photoshop
is a professional-level image-editing application (with text
and vector graphics capabilities) developed and marketed by
Adobe Systems. It is used extensively by professional photographers,
engineers, scientists, and film and video professionals.
Although chiefly designed to edit images for paper-based
printing, Photoshop is increasingly used today to create sophisticated
images for the Web, wireless devices, and other media. Recent
versions of the software bundle related applications, such
as Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe
GoLive, Adobe LiveMotion, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Encore
DVD, and Adobe Premiere.

| These provide non-linear editing
and special effects services, such as backgrounds and textures
for television, film, and the Web. Adobe Encore DVD, a relatively
new application, is used to make professional standard DVDs.
The standard file format for Photoshop is PDD or PSD. These
files can be imported from, or exported to any of the applications
listed above. Additionally, other bitmap image editing programs
accept this format, and can import and edit layered PSD or
PDD files.
