Photoshopping
Nowadays, photoshopping refers to the art of digitally editing
or manipulating images with any image-editing software. This
neologism comes from Adobe Photoshop itself, although other
programs, such as Paint Shop Pro, Photopaint, or the GIMP
may be used.
Adobe Systems discourages the use of the term out of fear
of undermining the company’s trademark. However, photoshopping
has been institutionalised at popular websites such as worth1000.com,
somethingawful.com ,etc., where Photoshop competitions in
all varieties have become a favourite pastime for many professional
and amateur users of the software.

| The term is also sometimes used
with a derogatory intent by artists to refer to images that
have been retouched instead of originally produced. Nowadays,
the practice is more commonly associated with creating visual
jokes on Internet sites.
There are numerous sites on the web listed as Photoshop resource
sites. These provide tutorials for Photoshop beginners and
serve as discussion forums of various editing techniques possible
for advanced users. The National Association of Photoshop
Professionals (photoshopuser.com) is a trade association that
provides resources for Photoshop educaton, training, and news.
Photoshopsupport.com is an independent website providing useful
tutorials and other Photoshop related information.
In recent times, Photoshop has been used for altering and
drawing vehicles, usually cars, in a process known as 'digi-modding',
'photoshopping', or 'virtual-tuning'. Although the websites
that provide a base for people to showoff their 'chops' are
fairly new, Photo-manipulated cars have been published in
automotive magazines for years.
